School Challenge open! Competition will find fastest teens in town

Thursday, April 08, 2010

Spokane, WA—Calling all teens! Sign-up for Bloomsday’s inaugural School Challenge—sponsored by Jones Soda and Strong Solutions—is now open at www.bloomsdayrun.org (click the Registration button). New this year, the School Challenge (originally advertised as the Teen Challenge) aims to find out which middle schools and high schools have the fastest Bloomsday runners. Winning teams in each of six divisions will each receive iPod shuffles (one for each team member) courtesy of Strong Solutions—1718 E. Sprague.

Teenage Bloomsday runners interested in participating in the School Challenge should sign up soon, as Bloomsday will only accept the first 50 teams to enter. Along with a chance to win an iPod shuffle, all participants will receive a New Balance shoe bag, a Bloomsday School Challenge T-shirt and access to the Post Race VIP Party in Riverfront Park.

To enter the School Challenge, team members must first sign up for Bloomsday, either online or through the mail. After entering Bloomsday, the team captain will have until April 26th to fill out and mail in a School Challenge Application Form to the Bloomsday office—1610 W. Riverside, Spokane WA 99201. Each team will enter one of six divisions:

  • Junior High/Middle School—All Male
  • Junior High/Middle School—All Female
  • Junior High/Middle School—Co-Ed
  • High School—All Male
  • High School—All Female
  • High School—Co-Ed

Team members need to be from the same school, but multiple teams may enter from the same school. The three best Bloomsday times will count towards the team total.

“We hope the School Challenge will give teenagers added encouragement to participate in Bloomsday," said School Challenge Chair Gary Markham. “And along with our Fit For Bloomsday Program for elementary school kids, this underscores Bloomsday’s commitment to promoting youth fitness.”

For young and old alike, online registration for Bloomsday 2010 is available at www.bloomsdayrun.org. The on-time entry fee for Bloomsday is $15.00, the lowest in the nation for a major running event. Mailed entries must be postmarked by April 13th to avoid the late entry fee of $30.00, while online entry at the $15.00 fee is available until April 18th. In addition, two local Sports Authority stores will be taking entry forms from now until the entry deadline of April 13th.
